CHINESE BAKED TOFU
[cooked-sharing]
1 package (12 ounces) of extra firm tofu
1/2 cup of soy sauce
1/4 cup of hoisin sauce
2 Tablespoons of Shao Shing wine (Chinese rice wine) or sherry
1 teaspoon of sesame oil
1 teaspoon of honey
1/2 teaspoon of five-spice powder (optional)
2 to 3 cloves of garlic, finely diced
Oil to coat the baking dish
2 to 3 scallions, sliced into thin strips
1
Drain the tofu and slice it into eight equal pieces.
2
In a small bowl, combine all remaining ingredients, except the oil and scallions, and stir well.
3
Place the tofu in a lightly oiled, shallow baking dish, and pour the sauce over the tofu.
4
Allow the tofu to marinate for 30 minutes to two hours.
5
Heat the oven to 350 degrees and bake the tofu for one hour, until brown, turning the pieces and spooning the sauce over the tofu during the cooking process.
6
Serve your barbecued tofu hot! This recipe makes about two servings.
