Out With the Old, In With the New

Spring arrived, as it does each year, with a remarkable burst of vitality and rebirth. You can feel it and see it all around you. As Nature expresses new growth and creativity, we feel our own energy transforming within. Over the last few weeks, Nature completed its transition into Spring. Almost overnight, the grays and browns of the Winter landscape turned green and full. And now, we enjoy the bursts of color from Nature’s most beautiful creations before it prepares to make yet another seasonal transition.

Have you ever noticed how windy and turbulent early Spring can be in many places around the world? Sayings like, “April showers bring May flowers.” and “March comes in like a lion and out like a lamb.” show that this season is Mother Nature’s way to prepare for the year. If you’ve ever had a garden, you’re familiar with this concept. You have to clear out the roots and stalks from last year’s crop, then till and fertilize the soil, before sowing new seeds. Now, in mid-May, we enjoy the fruits of our labor. Our seeds have sprouted, the weather has calmed, and we have the opportunity to embrace the beauty around us.

Nature is our best teacher. We can learn a lot about our own personal growth by studying its patterns. Just as Nature clears out the old to make space for the new, Spring is a time for us to do the same. Take an inventory of everything that surrounds you. Keep what fills you with joy. Find a home for the things that do not. When you pare down your belongings to the most essential items, you begin to find greater joy in what you have and in whom you share it with. Then spend time in Nature. Allow the chirping birds, rushing water, and smell of the forest to awaken your connection to the source. Make space for this new energy in your everyday life. Embrace Nature’s loving support as you pursue the unique, beautiful promise that you came to this Earth to fulfill.
