Nature Knows: A Single Drop of Water

Many theories exist as to the origins of water on Earth. Some sources say Earth’s water is 4.6 billion years old and originated from cosmic ice specs, while others list other dates and sources. Regardless, we can all agree on the basic scientific principle of the water cycle—water is recycled over and over again, from the earth to the skies, and back again. That means the water in your glass and the water that fills the oceans has been around for a long, long time.

This natural system shows us, time and time again, that what goes around comes around. Grand Master Lu often says, “In every situation, find the good. If it is meant to be yours, it will be yours.” In life, if we always look for the good, and we, ourselves, are an example of good, these actions will always come back to us.

When we watch the rain fall, or stare out at the vastness of the ocean, we come to realize the power of water. It has the capacity to carve rock and wash away sand. But while a large body of water holds immense power, it all starts with a single drop. Think about what happens when a raindrop falls on a larger body of water. It creates ripples!  That raindrop is like each one of us. We each have the ability to create ripples in the lives of others and in the world we influence.

By finding the good and being the good, we send ripples out all around us. And as the water cycle teaches us, that good will always come back again.
