Healing Foods for Summer

According to TCM understanding, every food has an energy essence that resonates with one or more particular organs. The Five Element Consciousness Framework tells us that a bitter taste is associated with Summer and the Fire element. The Heart and Small Intestine are predominant during Summer, so including foods that help heal this organ pair can build the health of your whole body—all year round.

Some foods that boost your Heart Qi are broccoli, broccoli rabe, plum tomatoes and watermelon. In addition, red apples, red grapes and pineapple are beneficial to your Small Intestine. Their mild and warm essence helps this organ function more efficiently, which improves metabolism.
