But First, Love Yourself

Every morning when we wake, we have the opportunity to start anew. As the sun peeks out over the horizon and night turns into day, we write a story. We can choose to either follow yesterday’s path or step foot on a brand new one. Better yet, we can even carve out a road that has yet to be discovered.

But as we step out of bed with these fresh thoughts in our heads, we often get pulled in multiple directions. By the time we head out the door for work, this brand new path we’re walking on has turned into yesterday’s to do lists and mounds of responsibilities. It’s very easy to get caught in the trap of “yesterday’s problems” and take on more and more with the thought that or our way is the only way.

Even if you are not here tomorrow…

the world will keep on spinning.

the bills will all get paid.

the meals will all get cooked.

the laundry will still get done.

Eventually, and maybe not in the way you’d do it, but everything will progress, because life does go on.

When was the last time you looked in the mirror and said, “thank you.”?

Thank you for…

showing up and standing up for what and who you believe in.

caring, giving, loving and being all that you are.

helping others to see all they can become.

being uniquely you.

In your comings and goings, as you check things off of your list and care for those around you, don’t forget to give back to yourself. You are more than the bill payer, the meal maker and the driver. You are a treasure. So before you walk out of the house this morning, make a pact to carve out a new path that fits you. Let this path lead to your Heart’s every desire. It could be as simple as planting a garden, taking an art class or going to a jazz festival. Begin small and find what makes your heart sing. And once you’ve found it, follow it like a hound dog looking for buried treasure. Because the gem you’re searching for is already within you. It may just need a little polishing to show its true luster.
