The Promise of Tomorrow
How often do you hold off on doing something because it’s not the right time, or you’re too afraid of the consequences? Fear is a powerful energy. It can prepare you for a “fight or flight” instantaneously. While fear itself can be paralyzing, it can also act as a nagging presence that continually pulls at you, even when you try to shoo it away.
Fear serves different purposes at different times in our lives. A healthy amount of fear can keep children and teens safe, helping them to develop an awareness of the world around them and learn right from wrong. But as we grow into adults, fear often squelches our creativity and stops us from exploring new opportunities. Some might even say fear stops them from living.
One of the grounding principles of TCM is the idea that in Nature, tomorrow is always promised. Trees don’t fear an impending storm and worry that they will lose branches. Flowers don’t hold back from blossoming for fear that the wind might blow their petals away. Nature knows that regardless of what happens today, tomorrow will always come.
As humans, societal advancements make it feel as if Nature is just a small part of OUR lives, when in fact, we are as much a part of Nature as the trees, birds, and flowers. Tomorrow is promised for you, too. It might look different from today, but it’s a new chance to start again—another opportunity to see life from a brand new perspective.
As Grand Master Lu shares, “Go wild! The promise of tomorrow is already there.”
