November’s Blood Moon

When a full moon coincides with a total lunar eclipse, it is dubbed a Blood Moon. With the Earth, moon and sun in perfect alignment, the moon takes on a reddish hue as it passes through Earth’s shadow. This rare celestial event will take place on November 8, 2022, between 5:17 – 6:42 a.m. EST, and will reach peak totality at 5:59 a.m. EST. The next Blood Moon will occur in 2025.

From a TCM perspective, a full moon represents bold, powerful energy which unites every living being on Earth. We have just begun to transition into the Winter season. The full moon relates to the Water element and the Winter season, making this celestial event especially powerful. Embrace the essence of the Water element—be peaceful, sit quietly, and deeply rest. And as you observe this incredible Blood Moon, stand in awe of the power that fills the sky.

The November 2022 Blood Moon will be visible across North America, the Pacific, Australia, and Asia. Those of us in the northeastern United States should be able to see the giant, reddish moon as it appears to rise in the early morning sky. So set your alarm early and get outside just before dawn. As you bask in the moon’s light, let your mind go. Breathe in and breathe out. Align yourself with the moon’s energy. Stand in silent meditation in our most powerful Qigong posture, ‘The Dragon Stands Between Heaven and Earth’.
