Words of Wisdom: Summer
Summer is all about connection. We connect with Nature through the wind, the warm sunshine, and the magnificent blooms. We connect with each other as we sit in the sand, share an al fresco dinner, or simply rock side-by-side on a porch by the sea. And we connect with ourselves as we allow this quiet to infuse itself into our very being. Somehow time goes a bit slower in Summer, giving us the opportunity to savor the sunshine and to be still for just a bit longer.
Connect with Yourself and Others
Summer’s still, quiet peacefulness is a breath of fresh air in a busy world. Breathe in deeply and allow the relaxing tranquil days of Summer to rejuvenate you. Find moments of quiet to sit peacefully and become aware of yourself and your place in this world. Recognize your breath. Express your appreciation for your body that supports you each and every day. Make time every day to grow your Qigong practice and connect within. Take time to grow meaningful relationships with those closest to you. Spend time reading with your children individually. Take a friend out for a cup of coffee. Visit with a loved one and share stories. Make the moments matter.
Connect with Healing Foods
Choose to eat foods that support you. Summer is the season of the Heart. Berries, apricots, plum tomatoes, and bitter foods (arugula, bitter melon, broccoli, broccoli rabe, dandelion greens, endive, escarole, kale, radicchio) energetically support Heart function. In addition, watermelon has a cooling essence. It is one of the best foods Nature provides to naturally cool the body.
