The Art of Becoming

Chances are, you are not the same person you were when you graduated college, got married, had your first child, or started your job. Life has a way of changing you. You live and you learn. And as you learn, you grow in measurable and immeasurable ways. Sometimes, you don’t notice those changes until you meet up with friends you haven’t seen in decades, or you look back on a social media update you shared ten years ago. Doing so often feels surreal, and the chapters in your life story begin to become more and more apparent.

As life goes on, it’s important to remember that the people around you are growing and changing, too. Sometimes life’s curves bring you closer together, and other times, you have to search for a common ground to remind yourself of that connection. But regardless of where life takes you, part of growing is learning to continually reinvent yourself.

Perhaps you’ve been working in the same company for 30 years. Maybe you started as an intern and worked your way up to VP or leaned on the lessons you learned from those you’ve met to help you grow within your same role.

Or perhaps you’ve changed careers three or four times. Regardless of what your college major was, you learned to acclimate to a changing environment and take on challenges, applying the skills you’ve picked up along the way in your varied careers.

No matter your path, today is a brand new beginning. Each day, you have the opportunity to take a chance, learn something new, stretch yourself, and become who you were intended to be. It may just take a shift in perspective to realize that the path you’re walking on is no longer meant for you. Where are you headed next?
