Summer Fruit Salad: Nature’s Balance

With Summer’s blazing hot sun, we often look for ways to cool the body down quickly. Many people grab an iced smoothie or a glass of ice water. While it seems as if cold would balance extreme heat, raw vegetables and ice-cold drinks actually tax the body’s resources.

Nature provides everything we need to naturally regulate our body temperatures. Summer is governed by the Heart. Bitter foods, juicy watermelon, and berries energetically support Heart function. In addition, watermelon has a cooling essence. It is one of the best foods Nature provides to naturally cool the body.

The Heart is the “mother” of the Stomach/Spleen. Sweet foods and root vegetables energetically support the Stomach/Spleen and aid the body in the digestive process.

This easy-to-please (and simple-to-prepare) fruit salad includes watermelon and strawberries, which support Heart function, and mango and red grapefruit, which support Stomach/Spleen function. The natural sweetness of the watermelon, strawberries, and mango is balanced by the tartness of the grapefruit. Try it for breakfast, lunch, or an anytime snack.

Summer Fruit Salad

  • 1/2 cup watermelon, chopped
  • 6 strawberries, chopped
  • 1 mango, chopped
  • 1 red grapefruit

Mix all fruits together and enjoy! Take it up a notch by adding a squirt of fresh lemon and some chopped fresh mint to support the Lung and further cool the body.
