Life Lesson: Embracing Change
There is an old Buddhist saying, “You cannot cross the same river twice. Both you and the river have changed.”
Change is the natural rhythm of existence. The river flows, carrying new currents and leaving old ones behind. We do the same. Every breath, every thought, and every emotion shapes us and asks us to see life from a slightly different perspective. When we embrace these new insights, we begin to write a new page in our own story.
Look back on the person you were five years ago. Do you make the same decisions now as you did then? What changed and what stayed the same? Each moment offers a chance to begin again. The same path, the same relationship, even the same challenge may reveal something entirely new — because we are new. Our experiences, choices, and awareness shift the landscape within us. Healing is not about returning to who we were, but about embracing who we are now. Life is an ongoing invitation to flow and to become.
In TCM, health depends on the free flow of Qi—the body’s vital energy. When Qi flows, we feel balanced, vibrant, and at peace. When it’s blocked, we may wind up feeling stuck, fatigued, or unwell. Recognizing that our bodies, minds, and Spirits, as well as everything around us are in a constant state of change helps us find balance and harmony with other living beings.
Although change may be intimidating, it’s a natural part of life. When we flow with change, we stay connected to Nature’s wisdom and open ourselves to the possibility for transformation.
