Eating For Healing: Warming Essence

Master Lu has long shared that warm is better for the body than cold. By warming our foods, we give the body’s digestive process a jump start, so it can reserve the Qi normally used to break down food and use it for healing instead. However, foods are not just categorized as warm or cold by their temperature. More importantly, we look at the food’s essence and consciousness.

A food’s consciousness contains its essence. This cannot change, regardless of how the food is prepared. Often, we add warming spices to foods for different purposes. For example, pepper will bring Warm essence to your Stomach, and cinnamon will direct Warm essence to your Kidney function.

Learn more about the essence of food, and watch this short clip to see Master Lu talk about warming spices at a local talk and cooking demonstration.
