2019: The Year of the Earth Pig and Your Chinese Zodiac Animal

The Chinese animal signs are a 12-year cycle used for dating the years. They represent a cyclical concept of time, rather than the Western linear concept of time. The Chinese Lunar Calendar is based on the cycles of the moon, and is constructed in a different fashion than the Western solar calendar.

In the Chinese calendar, the beginning of the year falls somewhere between late January and early February. The Chinese adopted the Western calendar in 1911, but the lunar calendar is still used for festive occasions, such as Chinese New Year.

A popular folk method which reflected this cyclical method of recording years are the Twelve Animal Signs. Every year is assigned an animal name or “sign” according to a repeating cycle: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Sheep, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig. Therefore, the same animal name or “sign” would reappear every twelve years.

We’ve just entered the Year of the Earth Pig. Read the interpretations below to see how your animal sign will fare in 2019.

Rat:

1912, 1924, 1936, 1948, 1960, 1972, 1984, 1996, 2008

The Rat is intelligent, energetic, creative, charming and resourceful. Rats are extremely organized. When a Rat takes a risk it usually pays off. Those born under this sign will enjoy a peaceful year full of prosperity.

Ox:

1913, 1925, 1937, 1949, 1961, 1973, 1985, 1997, 2009

The Ox, like the Dog, is reliable, loyal and hardworking. Those born under this sign are honest and cautious and often keep their emotions bottled up. The Ox will benefit from the Pig’s peaceful nature and will have many opportunities to make solid investments in 2019.

Tiger:

1914, 1926, 1938, 1950, 1962, 1974, 1986, 1998, 2010

Tigers are charming, magnetic, unpredictable, adventurous, strong and independent. These natural-born leaders often do what they please, sometimes to the detriment of those around them. Being aware of the strengths of others will serve Tigers well in 2019.

Rabbit:

1915, 1927, 1939, 1951, 1963, 1975, 1987, 1999, 2011

The Rabbit is gentle, caring, creative and playful yet reserved. Rabbits will be a bit bolder this year and will begin to form new social circles.

Dragon:

1916, 1928, 1940, 1952, 1964, 1976, 1988, 2000, 2012

Dragons are decisive, determined and charismatic. They often seek out adventure and excitement. The Pig’s sense of calm will cause Dragons to reconsider some actions or opportunities in 2019.

Snake:

1917, 1929, 1941, 1953, 1965, 1977, 1989, 2001, 2013

The Snake is wise, watchful and tenacious. Although a Snake may seem cold at first, he is warm and loving to those he gets close to. Snakes have a negative quality, too–laziness. In 2019, the Snake’s ability to persuade will come in handy.

Horse:

1918, 1930, 1942, 1954, 1966, 1978, 1990, 2002, 2014

The Horse can be described as driven, lively, independent, honest and exuberant. The Horse enjoys its freedom and looks for unique forms of self-expression. This year will bring exceptional success to the Horse, if he can maintain his interest.

Sheep:

1919, 1931, 1943, 1955, 1967, 1979, 1991, 2003, 2015

People born in the year of the Sheep are idealistic, resilient, nurturing, sensitive and kind. Sheep are also quietly persuasive and, like the Ox, have a tendency to hold their emotions in. While they encountered some struggles last year, Sheep will face good fortune in 2019 if they work hard and remain peaceful.

Monkey:

1920, 1932, 1944, 1956, 1968, 1980, 1992, 2004, 2016

Monkeys are clever, inquisitive, fun-loving and adaptable. Always willing to take risks, Monkeys often get into trouble and face hardships. This year will bring about a positive change for Monkeys who are determined and focused. Their hard work will bring successes in finances, career and love.

Rooster:

1921, 1933, 1945, 1957, 1969, 1981, 1993, 2005, 2017

Roosters are reliable, honest, passionate, precise, efficient and hardworking. While the Year of the Dog brought some challenges, the tough times are not yet over. Roosters will experience some ups and downs this year, but if they focus on the good of each situation, Roosters will enjoy more rewards than risks.

Dog:

1922, 1934, 1946, 1958, 1970, 1982, 1994, 2006, 2018

The Dog is loyal, fair, empathetic, protective, affectionate and resourceful, while also impetuous. While the Dog had its day in the sun last year, it wasn’t all positive. After some setbacks in 2018, the Dog is expected to enjoy some much-needed fortune in the coming year. Lucky in love, finances and career path, Dogs able to trust and ‘let it go’ will reap the benefits of the Pig’s easygoing nature.

Pig:

1923, 1935, 1947, 1959, 1971, 1983, 1995, 2007, 2019

Pigs are kind, honest, patient, generous, loyal, sociable, clever and enduring. Pigs may encounter a few struggles this year but will lean on their close friends for support. Although 2019 may prove to be a frustrating year for some Pigs, their patient nature will help them to see it through.
