As the story goes, an old Cherokee chief was sitting on the banks of the river with his grandson.
The boy was very upset about a fight he had with a friend and was seeking guidance from his grandfather.
The old man looked out at the water and then back down at his aged hands, choosing his words carefully.
“There is a fight inside every person,” he said to the boy. “It is in me and in you. It is also inside your friend. This fight is between two wolves.
One wolf is evil. He is angry, envious, greedy, and arrogant. He lies and lets his pride and ego get the best of him.
The other wolf is good. He is filled with joy, peace, love, hope and kindness. This wolf has faith and compassion for others as well as for himself.”
The boy sat quietly for a moment. Then he looked up at his grandfather and asked,
“Which wolf wins?”
The old man quietly replied, “The one you feed.”
This story is a powerful reminder of the importance of letting go of anger. We all have times when we feel angry and envious, and let our pride get the best of us. But with the understanding that our bodies, minds, and spirits are all connected, we begin to see how these negative emotions can truly unbalance our entire being.
Learn to let go of the negativity and anger that holds you back. Instead of feeding the angry wolf, feed the kind and compassionate one. Develop a peaceful and loving heart. Then you will truly be free.
Pass this message on. Learn to feed the good. Imagine the world we can create together.
